KÜTAHYA DESIGN CITY WEEK

“EARTH, FIRE, FUTURE”

As part of the ”Improving Digitalization and Creativity Ecosystem in Kütahya Project,” financed by the EU and the Republic of Türkiye and implemented under the Ministry of Industry and Technology's Competitive Sectors Program, Kütahya Design City Week was held from October 30 to November 1, 2025.

Kütahya Design City Week draws its inspiration from Kütahya's centuries-old tradition of tile and ceramic craftsmanship. Through Kütahya Design City Week, the city was supported in its transformation into a hub where traditional craftsmanship meets innovation, technology, and sustainable development. Within the scope of Kütahya Design City Week, important events such as international conferences, seminars, exhibitions, and networking meetings were held at various venues throughout Kütahya.

International Conference: Earth, Fire, Future

The "Earth, Fire, Future" International Conference, organized as part of Kütahya Design City Week, was held to bring together project stakeholders, artists, designers, academics, and business representatives, providing an international platform for exchange on creative industries and cultural heritage.

The conference addressed the transition from traditional production to digital and sustainable market dynamics, building on Kütahya's "Crafts and Folk Art" heritage within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

Digital Echoes: Folk-Art Heritage Seminar

The “Designing with Heritage: The Art of Çini Patterns” session featured Tile Artist İsmail Yiğit and Author, Turkish Tile and Ceramic Art Expert Cahit Yılmaz, who shared insights on combining the aesthetic and symbolic language of traditional tile patterns with contemporary design, and explored modern interpretations of this heritage.

The "Designing with Clay: Where Tradition Meets Innovation" session featured Designer Sasa Mitrovic, who explained how traditional ceramic craftsmanship inspires modern product design, ranging from handmade textures to industrial production.

SME Networking Event

The meeting organized to introduce Kütahya Innovation and Design Hub (KIDH) provided detailed information about the center and offered networking opportunities to industry stakeholders.

Çini Exhibition

As part of Kütahya Design City Week, a special exhibition showcasing works from the tile tradition was held. In the atmospheric setting of the historic Kemer Hamamı (Bath), visitors explored the richness of Kütahya tiles through a wide spectrum ranging from traditional patterns to modern interpretations. The exhibition ran from October 31 to November 1.
